Author: Court TV The defense in Derek Chauvin s murder trial rests, and the former Minneapolis police officer will not testify.  Chauvin, who is charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the killing of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, invoked his Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination.  The defense began its case on Tuesday and on Thursday morning the defense said it intended to rest and Chauvin waived his right to testify. If Chauvin did testify, he would have been subject to cross-examination by the prosecution.
