As the legislative session heads toward a June 10 end date, criminal justice reform advocates are centering their efforts around two proposals that would make changes to New York s parole system.
Bills that would set a revised parole process for older people in prison as well as a more expedited parole are being considered by state lawmakers. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, in an interview on Capital Tonight Wednesday, listed the issue as one of several topics the Legislature could tackle in the coming days.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) â An Amherst doctor allegedly took a COVID-19 vaccine dose home to his wife and faces a petit larceny charge that is expected to be dropped according to the Erie County District Attorney s Office.
Officials say the 74-year-old doctor from Amherst was volunteering at a COVID-19 vaccine distribution site at Erie Community College South Campus in Hamburg on February 10, 2021 when he allegedly took a single dose of the vaccine from the site without authorization. The doctor allegedly provided the dose to his wife, who qualified to receive the vaccine under New York State guidelines at the time due to her age.
The 19-year-old’s body has yet to be found by authorities.

Saniyya Dennis, the Buffalo State student who disappeared last month, may have committed suicide officials said Thursday (May 6), according to CBS News.
“At this time, we believe that Saniyya traveled alone from the Buffalo State College campus by NFTA bus to Niagara Falls State Park where the evidence suggests that she took her own life during the early morning hours of Sunday, April 25, 2021,” Erie County District Attorney John Flynn said in a statement
“All evidence indicates that Saniyya ended her own life, but the investigation into her disappearance will not be closed until she is found,” Flynn said.
