State and Local Government Impact Litigation   THE PUBLIC RIGHTS PROJECT FELLOWSHIP Public Rights Project helps talented attorneys find pathways into rewarding public service careers. We place skilled, public interest-minded fellows into state or local government law offices City Attorneys, District Attorneys, or Attorneys General for two years. Fellows have the opportunity to work on a range of civil rights, economic justice, and environmental justice issues that directly impact vulnerable populations locally and across the country. Fellows will work collaboratively alongside colleagues in their government offices on affirmative litigation, coalition building and community engagement, policy initiatives, and other enforcement projects developed with their placement offices. They will help build out new cases and generate new ideas for their office to expand public rights enforcement.

Man sentenced to 90 months in prison for setting sleeping man on fire in Medford

  MEDFORD, Ore The man that set a sleeping person on fire in an alley last fall, has been sentenced to 90 months in prison Wednesday. Medford Police says a man was lit on fire on the 100 block of S Grape Street during the evening hours of September 15th. NBC5’s surveillance cameras in the alley captured footage of the incident. 23-year old Brandon Lyon is shown trying to set several different homeless people on fire. The victim suffered third degree burns on his hands and his feet and his condition remains unknown. There is no known connection between the two. Lyon was arrested in Hawthorne Park the next day, after an officer spotted his clothing to have matched the description. He admitted to his actions but at the time said he wasn’t sure as to why he did it.

Former Warminster DARE officer accused of sexual abuse

A former Warminster police officer is accused of sexually abusing four teenage boys while working as a D.A.R.E officer 20 years ago, but authorities say they fear there could be additional potential victims. James Christopher Carey, 52, was arraigned before District Judge Maggie Snow on 122 counts of child sexual assault related charges Wednesday. Bail was set at 10% of $100,000, which he posted, according to the DA s office. Carey, now of Cape May Court House, New Jersey, did not comment to reporters as he left his arraignment in handcuffs, but his attorney Michael Applebaum maintained his client is innocent.  Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub said during a news conference that the abuse happened while Carey was an officer with Warminster.

Hemphill man accused of murdering teen gets $50K bond Matthew Edgar (Source: Sabine County Sheriff s Office) By KTRE Digital Media Staff | April 7, 2021 at 11:36 AM CDT - Updated April 7 at 3:05 PM HEMPHILL, Texas (KLTV) - A bond has been granted for the release of accused murderer Matthew Hoy Edgar. Sabine County District Attorney J. Kevin Dutton announced the bond grant via press release on Wednesday, expressing his dissatisfaction but agreed that the judge was simply following the law and its recent changes due to COVID-19. Edgar’s bail was set at $50,000. Edgar, 24, of Hemphill was indicted on March 16 for the murder of Livye Heathyr Lewis, 19, who was found dead with a gunshot wound on Oct. 31, 2020. She had also been struck on her head and her upper body, according to the indictment.
