BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. – The police officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright during a traffic stop in a Minneapolis suburb and the city s police chief resigned, the mayor announced Tuesday.
The death of the 20-year-old Black man has shaken a city already unsettled after George Floyd died about 10 miles away during a police arrest last May, an incident that led to nationwide protests calling for an end to racial injustice and police brutality.

The Washington County Attorney s Office will handle the charging decision in connection to the fatal police shooting of Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center on Sunday, April 11.
Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman in a statement Monday said five metro-area counties adopted a new practice last year for police use of force cases to avoid the appearance of mishandling of a case.
The new practice has the county attorney in the jurisdiction where the incident happened refer the case to one of the other county attorneys or the state attorney general.

Questions Arise About How Kim Potter, 26-Year Police Veteran, Could Confuse Gun For Taser
On 4/13/21 at 4:46 AM EDT
Doubts have been raised about how a 26-year police veteran could mistake a handgun for a Taser, after the Brooklyn Center police chief said he believes the officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright did so accidentally.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) on Monday identified Kim Potter as the officer who shot Wright, a day after the 20-year-old Black man s death in the Minneapolis suburb sparked unrest in an area already on edge due to the trial of former officer Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd.
