Trial set in Leavenworth County deadly pursuit case

The Leavenworth Times A trial has been set for a man who is facing a murder charge in connection to a deadly pursuit in Leavenworth County. The trial of Anthony J. Dorsey is scheduled to begin Aug. 9 in Leavenworth County District Court. Dorsey, 31, is charged with first-degree murder and fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer. The crimes are alleged to have occurred Sept. 30, 2019. Dorsey allegedly was fleeing from a state trooper on Interstate 70 when he was involved in a crash. Another driver, Nathan Pena of Brookfield, Illinois, was killed in the crash. Dorsey is charged with what is known as felony murder, which is a form of first-degree murder.

Status hearing scheduled in capital murder case A Leavenworth County man who is charged with capital murder appeared in court Thursday. Donald R. Jackson Jr. appeared in court for a status hearing. And his next status hearing has been scheduled for May 20. Jackson, 40, is charged with capital murder for allegedly killing his two sons, ages 12 and 14. The bodies of the boys were found Oct. 24 at a residence on Hillside Road near Lansing. The two boys had been shot, according to a probable cause affidavit prepared in the case. Jackson, who remains in custody at the Leavenworth County Jail, made his court appearance Thursday through the Zoom online videoconferencing service.
