Desks small enough for students learning from home during the coronavirus pandemic have been in high demand at the Bergen County Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Westwood.
“It just killed me to say, ‘no, we didn’t have them,’” said Teri Capparelli, the director of the ReStore, which sells donated furniture and housewares to benefit Habitat for Humanity.

WILMINGTON Presently the Clinton County Habitat for Humanity has no partner families lined up for one of its affordable and energy-efficient houses for people who otherwise couldn’t obtain one.
Clinton County Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors President Tom Matrka said the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization normally builds two homes a year, and the times they haven’t is because it didn’t have partner families to match a new house with.

Thrivent is awarding Sussex County Habitat for Humanity a contribution of $7,000 to help Sussex County families stay in their homes.
Thrivent’s donation will help fund Sussex Habitat’s local COVID Relief Program, which helps Habitat homeowners get temporary assistance making their mortgage payments during the COVID-19 pandemic. With Thrivent’s support, Sussex Habitat will sustain affordable homeownership costs for more families in Sussex County.
Prior to the novel coronavirus spread, more than 18 million households across the U.S. were paying half or more of their income on a place to live. As the pandemic continues to cause job disruption and economic fallout, many households are enduring layoffs, unemployment and pay cuts. This wage loss has amplified the financial burden on households to maintain essential payments and can result in families having to trade off among paying bills, mortgage or medical care.
