Pike County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a homeless man on Monday evening in Barry for alleged possession of a stolen vehicle.
Pike County Sheriff David Greenwood says that deputies executed a traffic stop at 11:47PM on Monday on County Highway #4 at the entrance to the Barry Travel Plaza. Subsequent to an investigation, deputies learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Marshall, Illinois. Police arrested 38 year old Evan C. Bright for unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, obstructing justice, and speeding. Greenwood says Bright was taken into custody without incident.

The Pike Sheriff’s Department helped in a vehicle pursuit that crossed state lines early this morning. The Louisiana, Missouri Police Department requested the help of the Pike County Sheriff’s Department during the early morning hours today.
Pike County Sheriff David Greenwood said in a press release this afternoon that the pursuit ended on 236th Street off of State Highway 96 in Pleasant Vale Township in rural western Pike County, approximately 1.5 miles east of New Canton.
Following the pursuit, 42 year old James M. Lederle of Louisiana, Missouri was shot by a Louisiana, Missouri Police Officer. Lederle sustained a non-life-threatening injury and refused medical treatment at the scene. Lederle is being lodged in the Pike County, Illinois Jail pending extradition to Missouri. Lederle is also wanted on 3 Pike County, Illinois traffic warrants and a parole warrant out of Missouri.

The cause of death has been determined of a Griggsville man whose body was discovered lying in a ditch last month.
Pike County Sheriff David Greenwood said this morning that following an extensive investigation into the death of 23-year-old, Nathan Embree of Griggsville Illinois, it has been determined that the death was completely natural in manner.
Embree was found deceased on the side of Liberty Street in Griggsvile on January 13
th, 2021.
nd “there was no evidence of any foul play” during the investigation.
According to the initial press release, it is believed Embree was walking in Griggsville between the hours of 10:00 am and noon. Greenwood says his body was discovered by a passerby who called 911 not long after.
