STUART A grand jury Tuesday determined no laws were violated when a Martin County sheriff’s deputy on Jan. 12 shot a suicidal woman who had lunged at him with a knife, the State Attorney’s Office confirmed.
After state prosecutors spent several hours presenting evidence, the grand jury seated in Martin County declined to return criminal charges against the deputy, according to Chief Assistant State Attorney Steve Gosnell.
Carrie Ann Demone, 49, of New Baltimore, Michigan, died while in hospice care nearly a month after being shot in the parking lot of Ocean Breeze Plaza, in Jensen Beach.

A woman is in critical condition after a deputy involved shooting in Jensen Beach. Our prayers are certainly with the woman that we were forced to shoot. That s the hardest thing any of us can do is to make a decision to fire at somebody else.
Martin County Sheriff William Snyder says someone called 911, but hung up on Tuesday afternoon. Deputies responded to the area where the call came from and found a parked vehicle that was the subject of a bulletin issued earlier in the day for a missing and endangered woman.
49-year old Carrie Ann Demone from Michigan was in that vehicle and Snyder says she had slit her wrists.
