State Attorney Amira Fox’s office said on Friday that Melissa Carter, head of Central Elementary School in Clewiston, will not face charges over the incident. The attorney’s office says that no crime was committed when the crying child was punished in a classroom in front of her mother on 13 April.

Hillsborough County Sheriff s Office confirmed the deceased was 20-year-old Evereonna Sankey from Lee County, NBC2 reported. Three others were injured after the shooting at the Brown Sugar Festival , where 3000 people had gathered. Officers said they heard gunshots nearby, before responding to the scene to try and save Sankey before she passed away moments later, NBC2 reported. Our investigators are following up on all leads and we are determined to bring about closure for this family, Hendry County Sheriff Steve Whidden told NBC2.
