An appeal launched by the Mayor s Charity Appeal Trust over the festive period to help casual workers in the hospitality industry has now smashed its fundraising target. The Keep the Lights On appeal was set up to help support casual workers who were unable to work and gain access to financial support from the government, in a period that would normally be the busiest. The Crowdfunding campaign received generous donations from residents and businesses in Basildon and the target of £25,000 has now been hit - with £25,130 being raised so far. he Mayor of Basildon, Councillor David Burton-Sampson, said: I have to say a massive thank you to each and every person who has donated to this important cause. To raise £25,130 at a time like this is a testament to the warmth and graciousness of the Basildon community.
