Kurnool, Anantapur districts witness spike in infections
Schoolchildren are the worst affected in the second wave of COVID-19 in Kurnool and Anantapur districts.
Case in point is the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya at Sankar Nagar in Adoni, where 93 students and eight teachers (101 in all) tested positive for the pandemic, prompting the closure of the school for a week. On Sunday, Kurnool registered 729 COVID-19 positive cases and Anantapur 305. Kurnool district tested 3,500 samples and Anantapur tested 4,318 samples.

Birsa Agriculture University, the state’s premier agriculture varsity, on Monday announced postponement of the counselling process for admission into post graduate and Ph.d programmes till further notice owing to the shutdown of its administrative unit for two days after three staff members tested positive for Covid on Sunday.
“Counselling for all PG and Ph.D programmes for admission scheduled on April 7, 9 and 12, is hereby postponed due to the second phase of Covid outbreak. The next schedule for Offline / Online counselling will be announced well in advance,” read a statement from the varsity.
Ranchi: The administration on Wednesday started conducting Covid tests in government schools of the district as a precautionary measure. Notably, government schools have started physical classes for students of Class VIII and above from March 1.
A team from the health department covered several schools, such as Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Namkum and the government middle school in Pandra, among others.
The regional deputy director of education, Arwind Vijay Bilung, who is also in-charge of the district education office, said, “The residential schools and those with large number of students have been selected for testing during the first phase of the drive.”
