Written By: Brainerd Dispatch | × GARRISON Two men were injured Saturday, May 8, when the Chevy Traverse they were in crashed and caught on fire, northwest of Garrison. The Minnesota State Patrol was called at 12:19 a.m. to the crash at the intersection of Highways 6 and 18 in Bay Lake Township. The Traverse was traveling south on Highway 6 when it went through a stop sign at Highway 18 and struck an embankment where it came to rest and caught on fire. The driver, Thomas R. Raines, 29, St. Michael, and his passenger, Michael A. Steiner, 38, Buffalo, were both transported to Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby for non-life-threatening injuries. It was unknown if the two men were wearing their seat belts and alcohol was involved in the crash, according to the crash report.

Residents Help Rescue Stranded Boater

Unsplash (KNSI) – The Crow Wing County Sheriff is praising the work of alert bystanders who helped rescue a stranded boater Thursday afternoon. It all happened just before 1:00. The man was on Clearwater Lake and had been yelling for help. A group nearby launched a jet ski to go out and get the man from his boat. He said he was operating an eight-foot watercraft with a trolling motor but became stranded due to windy conditions. The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Deerwood Lake Fire Department and Crosby Ambulance responded to the scene. The man was not hurt.
