No chance, says CPM, day after Congress hints at post-poll ties with TMC | India News

KOLKATA: Bengal CPM secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra on Thursday ruled out any post-poll tie-up with Trinamool Congress in the event of Mamata Banerjee’s party falling short of a majority. He suggested that TMC and BJP could well join hands to form the next government if both parties failed to reach the magic number. Mishra’s statement came a day after state Congress president Adhir Chowdhury kept alive the “possibility” of a post-poll alliance between the Congress-Left-Indian Secular Front combine and Trinamool. The CPM state secretary’s comment makes it evident that the pre-poll partners might part ways after the polls in the event of a hung assembly. Asked about Chowdhury keeping Congress’ options open, Mishra chose to talk about BJP and Trinamool instead.

Congress keeps post-poll option with TMC open | India News

KOLKATA: Bengal Congress chief and long-time Mamata Banerjee baiter Adhir Chowdhury has refused to shut out the “possibility” of a post-poll tie-up between the Congress-Left-Indian Secular Front alliance and TMC. “Politics is the art of the possible,” he said on Wednesday, quoting Bismarck, when asked whether Congress would support Mamata if her party fell short of a majority in assembly polls. “This is a hypothetical question. The Sanjukta Morcha aims to hold office on its own. I don’t know now who will support our Sanjukta Morcha after the poll. We don’t know where Mamata will go if she loses,” he said.

West Bengal Polls - Distance Between TMC and BJP Narrows

West Bengal Polls - Distance Between TMC and BJP Narrows Contest between 2 Parties The ongoing Bengal Assembly election is being billed as the ‘mother of all state elections’ for several reasons. Never in the past have so many top Central leaders from Delhi – including PM, Home Minister and Defence Minister - addressed so many election meetings in Bengal, inviting the title of ‘helicopter daily passengers’ from Delhi. First, for the BJP, Bengal is the proverbial last frontier yet to be conquered. Till 2021, it was almost unthinkable that a party which is traditionally perceived by the average Bengali to be a party of ‘Hindi-speaking non-Bengali vegetarians’ could assemble several lakhs of people chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ on the Brigade Parade ground of Kolkata which has been a bastion of first the CPI-M and then the All India Trinamul Congress.
