The mob coup won’t succeed as long as we remain vigilant

On Wednesday afternoon in the nation’s capital, a group of violent insurgents tried to halt the peaceful transition of power.
It’s unbelievable, but there seems no other way to describe the situation that unfolded yesterday at the US Capitol. The national media have taken to describing the Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol as a “mob.” And it’s true that they were a mob in that they had no real plan for seizing power and no coherent strategy.

Congress convened Wednesday to perform the largely ceremonial counting of Electoral College votes and to declare Joe Biden the winner of the 2020 presidential election. Donald Trump countered with a rally that he had been planning for weeks. âBig protest in DC on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!â
“Let’s have trial by combat,â Rudy Giuliani, Trumpâs disgraced personal lawyer, crowed from the rally podium. âStand up and fight!â Trumpâs son Don Jr. shouted, as he threatened Congressional Republicans unwilling to support overturning Bidenâs election: âWeâre coming for you and weâre going to have a good time doing it.â
