Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-IL), former Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) Chairwoman, and a top lieutenant of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), announced Friday she will not be seeking reelection.
Bustos said “following a decade of service,” she “will not seek reelection after completing this term.”
This is a major blow for Pelosi and House Democrats with their already slim majority crumbling. Bustos is the latest Democrat to announce she will not run for reelection.
Former President Donald Trump previously won Bustos’ district in both of his elections in 2016 and 2020. The retiring Congresswoman was able to hold her seat. Illinois lost a congressional seat after the Census, and the Democrat supermajority controls redistricting for the 2022 election.

the focus all week was on the battling within the GOP between House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy and Rep. Liz Cheney, the third-ranking member of his leadership team, and between former President Trump and Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell.
“I don’t think it’s helpful,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), an advisor to McConnell.
Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), the No. 2 Senate Republican, called keeping GOP infighting from overshadowing more unifying messaging
“our daily challenge.”
The latest round of infighting comes
as Republicans are already facing big headaches on their political fortunes as they struggle to dent Biden, who many acknowledge they like personally, roughly 100 days into his administration.

Joe Biden is either an historical illiterate or a shameless liar. Perhaps he is both.
Desperate to keep the disintegrating narrative about the events of January 6 alive, Biden, in his first sparsely attended speech to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday night, declared the January 6 protest was “the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War.”

In April 2021, after U.S. President Joe Biden’s first address to a joint session of Congress, the left-leaning Facebook page Occupy Democrats posted a meme that claimed Republican Congress members had abjectly failed to applaud Biden’s stated goal of drastically reducing the rate of child poverty in the United States.
The meme, posted on April 28, the evening of the speech, contained what appeared to be a screenshot from a video stream, showing the Democratic side of the House of Representatives chamber standing and applauding, while members on the Republican side (circled in red) largely sat and did not appear to applaud. The meme contained the following text:
