COVID-19 pandemic is not a Government versus Us battle but a Us versus Corona battle. This battle transcends political differences. We have to fight this battle together as a nation. In that spirit, as a first step, I believe that the Modi government must urgently call an all-party meeting on the COVID-19 situation, she said. The Congress Party also demands that standing committees must be convened to ensure collective action and accountability to combat the pandemic better, she said.
Gandhi told the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge to bring to the notice of the Presiding Officer the Report of Standing Committee on Health presented in October 2020 and demand that he take action on the recommendations of the report.

Demands convening of Parliamentary Standing Committee meetings to take a stock of the situation
Stepping up the the pressure on the Centre, the Congress demanded the Prime Minister Narendra Modi convene an urgent all-party meeting to discuss the challenges due to the pandemic.
“The Centre has abdicated its fundamental responsibilities and duties towards the people instead of alleviating their suffering and pain at the time of a pandemic,” Congress president Sonia Gandhi charged here on Friday at a meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party. She also demanded that the meetings of Parliamentary Standing Committees must be convened urgently to take stock of the situation.

The meeting is being held under the chairmanship of Gandhi through video conferencing.
According to sources, the meeting started with paying tribute to all former Members of Parliament (MPs), including former President Pranab Mukherjee, Ahmed Patel, Motilal Vora, Tarun Gogoi, who have recently passed away.
Earlier, the Congress President had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging the new COVID-19 vaccination policy was not only “discriminatory but also a complete abandonment of the youth” and urged the government to reverse the ill-considered decision.
“It is surprising that despite the harsh lessons of last year and the pain inflicted on our citizens, the government continues to follow an arbitrary and discriminatory policy, which promises to exacerbate existing challenges,” she had written in the letter.
