POINT ROBERTS, Wash. (AP) Washington state’s governor traveled to the exclave of Point Roberts on Friday to visit residents who have been voicing concern for months about the border closure between the U.S. and Canada that has essentially cut them off from both countries.
Point Roberts is on the tip of a peninsula south of Vancouver, British Columbia, that juts into U.S. territory. It’s part of Washington, but separated from the rest of the state.
Gov. Jay Inslee was greeted Friday by a few dozen residents at the town’s library, some of whom suggested that Inslee push the White House to allow for an exemption to the closure, or approval for Canadians to return to the point, KING-5 reported.

A Blaine company could lose employees if the Navy keeps outsourcing projects. Author: Eric Wilkinson Updated: 7:56 PM PDT May 1, 2021
BLAINE, Wash. Lister Chain & Forge has made chains for the United States Navy for nearly 40 of its 110 years in business. But the Navy has now set a course that could sink jobs at the Blaine plant. The Department of Defense should be following the law and purchasing from a U.S. manufacturer, said Congresswoman Suzan DelBene, who represents Blaine.
DelBene is one of more than a dozen congressional leaders who signed a letter accusing the Navy of using loopholes to outsource the manufacturing of its anchor chains to a foreign country.
DelBene Announces Launch of Shuttered Venue Operators Grant Program
Kirkland, WA, April 8, 2021
Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) announced that the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) program has begun accepting applications. This funding is available through the American Rescue Plan to support Washington state small businesses and workers. The program includes a total of over $16 billion in resources for shuttered venues such as performing arts centers, movie theaters, and museums.
“Venues have been hit uniquely hard by this pandemic,”
said DelBene. “The opening of the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program is another step toward getting people back to work and rebuilding our economy. These grants will help Washington state’s shuttered venues avoid permanent closure and put paychecks back in workers’ pockets.”
