The hope generated by the first meeting between the nurses at Saint Vincent Hospital and Tenet Healthcare in nearly two months quickly evaporated Monday evening as each side appears to be no closer to accepting a resolution.
Monday’s meeting represented the first between the two sides since the strike began on March 8. Tenet Healthcare, the Dallas-based parent company of Saint Vincent Hospital, came to the table with an offer after the nurses last proposal was shot down when the two met in early March.

WORCESTER, Mass., April 27, 2021 /PRNewswire/ The nurses of St. Vincent Hospital and Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare held the first round of negotiations since the nurses launched their strike on March 8 for a new contract that the nurses believe must include needed staffing improvements to ensure safer care for all the patients at the facility to end the strike. Unfortunately, Tenet came to the table without addressing the nurses call for safer staffing standards that the nurses had raised prior to the strike, and which had been communicated to the mediator on Friday when the negotiations were scheduled.

But for many, the most important unanswered question since that awful night has been much more personal: Where is the justice for George Floyd – and for that matter, Officer Chauvin?
Nothing can reverse the pain, suffering and agony of George Floyd’s family and friends, but this decision does make clear that Officer Chauvin was not above the law. He was given a fair trial, found guilty, and he will pay a price for his actions.

Breonna Taylor and her family deserve justice.
It is past time for comprehensive policing reform. We are working to pass the Justice In Policing Act in the Senate. Chuck Schumer
Several other lawmakers touted the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which bans chokeholds and prohibits no-knock warrants, the type of warrant police used when they raided Taylor’s apartment. The law is named after the unarmed Black man Minneapolis police killed in May.
