Congressman Fred Upton has received a new leadership role in the U.S. House. On Thursday, Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers named Upton the House Energy Subcommittee Republican Leader. Upton says there will be plenty of critical issues to come before the Energy and Commerce Committee in the next couple of years, including energy prices during COVID, cybersecurity and the electric grid, and climate change. As always, he promised to select an “all of the above” approach to energy sources. He issued a statement saying “our subcommittee will continue to govern in a bipartisan fashion, as has become tradition with the Energy and Commerce Committee as a whole.” He adds he looks forward to working with the new administration.

Moving into 2021, Congressman Fred Upton says there will have to be unity in Washington, D.C. He tells WSJM News priorities will include the continued fight against COVID-19.
“Making sure, what is it that we can do to help our states have the proper resources to distribute the vaccines in a much better way than what’s happened over the last month,” Upton said. “It’ll take a little while to take a look at the next COVID package.”
Upton says the next COVID relief package will probably come together after a couple of months when lawmakers have taken a look at the COVID situation and unemployment. He’s glad to say the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus is growing.
