The U.S. House Problem Solvers Caucus has announced its support for a $973 billion infrastructure package proposed in the Senate. Congressman Fred Upton tells WSJM News the 50-plus member caucus decided to back the proposal, which is scaled back by about $1.5 trillion from President Biden’s initial proposal. Upton says this one is similar to the Problem Solvers Building Bridges proposal.
“It’s really focusing on traditional infrastructure needs like roads and bridges, and making sure that our energy grid is resilient against weather as well as cyber attacks,” Upton said.
Upton says official Problem Solvers support gives the Senate plan a boost.

However, Upton is concerned about other counties, especially with the emergence of the Delta variant.
Upton: Problem Solvers Sign Off on Senate Infrastructure Plan By Gary Stevens
Jul 6, 2021 | 6:00 PM
WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM) – A hurdle has apparently been cleared in the effort to pass an infrastructure agreement in Washington.
According to Congressman Fred Upton, the Problem Solvers Caucus, of which the St. Joseph Republican is a vice-chair, on Tuesday (July 6, 2021) “embraced” the Senate package that takes nearly a trillion dollars that had divided the Biden Administration and majority Democrats from the GOP minority “off the table.”
“This is a bipartisan plan that we think we can get to the President,” Upton said on “WHTC Morning News” during his weekly interview. “A lot of work now is moving forward, and I hope we can get this thing done. As I told the President last week, ‘If we can’t do this, what is going to happen that is bipartisan?’”
Congressman Fred Upton has released a statement after he attended the White House signing ceremony of a resolution, which he supported, to reverse regulations loosening methane emission standards. Upton’s full statement is below:
“Climate change is real – period – and methane is a major contributor to rising temperatures worldwide. That’s why prominent American energy companies also acknowledge the science and support similar efforts to strengthen emission regulations and reduce carbon pollution in our atmosphere. Like them, I have always believed that we should use technology and our institutional know-how to combat climate change. We can – and must – take commonsense, bipartisan action to reduce emissions, prioritize public health, and protect our environment without imposing burdensome federal mandates in the process. This resolution will help us do just that and I am glad to see these harmful regulations reversed.”
