Congressman Alan Lowenthal (CA-47), today, issued the following statement on the storming and occupation of the U.S. Capitol Building by supporters of President Trump:
“This was a frightening day, for me, and for our country. Marauding rioters, who in their own words were intent on overthrowing the government, invaded and occupied the U.S. Capitol, a sacred space that belongs to every American.
“I know we will survive this crisis, together. Our democracy, our Constitution, and our rule of law the things that make us Americans are stronger than any building. Even in the face of terror, Democrats and Republicans will come together to ensure that Joe Biden, who overwhelmingly and clearly won the election, will take office on January 20th. We will not be intimidated.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), co-chair of the Quiet Skies Caucus, and Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-CA) led a letter this week urging President-elect Joe Biden to appoint Federal Aviation Administration officials who will use creative approaches to solve noise problems from aircraft.
Norton has long led the effort in the House to combat airplane and helicopter noise in the nation’s capital and across the country. Norton’s community meetings on airplane and helicopter noise and residents’ stories of interrupted sleep patterns, homes shaking and difficulty having conversations have guided Norton’s efforts to quell airplane and helicopter noise.
In an effort to head off last minute lame-duck Trump Administration efforts to expand offshore oil and gas drilling along the California coast, Congressman Alan Lowenthal (CA-47), today, led a letter with 21 of his House colleagues from the California Delegation in expressing their strong opposition to any expansion of oil and gas drilling off the coast of California.
In a letter to Department of Interior Secretary David Bernhardt, co-led by Congressmen Salud Carbajal (CA-24), Jared Huffman (CA-2), and Mike Levin (CA-49), the Members demand the outgoing Trump Administration immediately withdraw any new oil and gas leasing off California from consideration in any future federal program.
The last regular meeting of the year for the Cypress City Council opened with a video thanking outgoing termed-out members, Rob Johnson and Mariellen Yarc, and congratulating incoming members Anne Hertz and Frances Marquez.
Included in the video was a greeting from Congressman Alan Lowenthal, whose district includes the City of Cypress.
Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva spoke during public comments to the same theme, as did Rachel Strong, who ran but did not win a seat on this Council.
Before the new Council members were seated, the prior Council voted to certify the results of the general municipal election. Besides the new Council members, that election also saw the voters of Cypress approve Measure P.
