A Federal Judge in Lafayette has granted a preliminary injunction that stops implementation of the Biden Administration s pause on drilling permits on federal lands.
Last week, U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty heard arguments from 13 states who are suing over the moratorium as well as the Department of Justice and environmental groups who support it.
Today, Doughty issued his stay. In it, the judge orders that the pause can t be implemented until the lawsuit is resolved, or until an appeals court lifts it.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers budgeted $50 million to spot dredge the Vermilion River, Congressman Clay Higgins (R-Lafayette) announced Friday.
Higgins announcement comes on the heels of an emergency approval of $5 million by Lafayette s City Council for spot dredging along the river following intense rain in Lafayette last week that prompted isolated flooding.
The May 17 storm dumped more than 6 inches of rain on Lafayette in the span of just a few hours, pushing the Vermilion River to its highest levels since the 2016 floods. We ve worked with the Corps to prioritize federal investments for spot dredging. Deepening the river at key points will provide greater water retention capacity for the region and help mitigate flood threats, Higgins said in a statement Friday. This funding, if fully realized in the Corps’ Work Plan, would be a major win.
FEMA to award more than $6M in grants for Lafayette Parish flooding mitigation

FEMA will award two grants for flood mitigation in Lafayette Parish totaling more than $6 million.
According to Congressman Clay Higgins, the two FEMA grants total $6,219,955 for flood mitigation efforts in Lafayette Parish.
The hazard mitigation grants include:
$3,420,195 to fund the elevation of seven structures and the acquisition of seven structures, which are all designated as Severe Repetitive Loss properties.
$2,799,760 to fund the elevation of five structures and the acquisition of eight structures, which are designated as either Repetitive Loss or Severe Repetitive Loss properties.
