Scott Harlan Phillips, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Cleveland, Tennessee, on Saturday, January 2, 2021 surrounded by his family.
He was a native of Lawrence, Ks., and was a proud Jayhawks fan. He received his B.S. in Geological Engineering from the University of Kansas and his M.S. in Geology from the University of Illinois. Before moving to Cleveland, he had lived in Houston, Texas, for over 40 years.
His professional career had taken him down several pathways; Chevron/Standard Oil of California (1954-1975), Howell Corporation (1975-1979), Fields Energy Resources, Inc. (1979-1982), Memorial Group Bank (1982-1987); Federal Equity Receiver (1982-1985). He had served as a Board Member of the Ocoee Foundation, Inc. (2001 to 2020).

Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty and Congressman Chuck Fleischmann announced Saturday they will oppose the Electoral College certification of the presidential election.
Rep. Fleischmann said, “The 2020 Presidential Election was rife with irregularities in many states. After speaking with constituents across the third district of Tennessee, I will object to the certification of the Electoral College on Wednesday. We must protect the integrity of our elections by ensuring only legal votes are counted, and illegal ones are not. I continue to stand with President Trump and support his efforts to bring transparency to our election system.

Throughout 2020, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints joined with those in the greater Chattanooga area to just serve. The year began with a focus on young missionaries, both male and female, who left their families and put their education on hold to declare the divine mission of Jesus Christ. “Jesus Christ is the Savior and Redeemer of the world. Only He is mighty to save,” the missionaries testified from Ringgold to Dayton, Hixson, Ooltewah, Collegedale, Chattanooga and beyond as they invited all to come unto Christ and find everlasting joy.
