More makers stepping up moves to tap into the sector as global shipments witness big growth in 2020
Foldable smartphones are set to become all the rage this year as more manufacturers are expected to launch them.
Devices with foldable screens can be used either as tablets or as pocket-size handsets, creating broad application scenarios.
This nifty model is the smartphone market s attempt to shake off an innovation lull and bolster sales that have been sluggish due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Digital reboot 2021 will be a year when foldables get the much-needed push and 5G will be the buzzword
Simple smartphones will remain simple
Face it, a flagship phone from 2019 still gets the work done. There have obviously been improvements on the camera front in the last year but tiny photographs on social media feeds don’t do justice to the powerful shooters available on new phones. Do we really need to upgrade mobile phones? That’s the question most will ask in 2021. Only if your smartphone is not receiving the latest operating system upgrade, you may consider buying a new one. Or if some of your favourite apps have stopped working. Consumers will base their purchase decision more on needs rather than giving into corporate advertising.
Samsung Electronics took the number one position in the global foldable smartphone market this year with the launch of new devices, a report said on Tuesday, as the company tries to further solidify its status in the burgeoning sector. According to the latest report from industry tracker Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), Samsung is estimated to take up an 88 percent share in this year s foldable smartphone market in terms of shipments, reports Yonhap news agency.
Samsung unveiled the vertically folding Galaxy Z Flip in February and launched the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in September. By model, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and the Z Fold 2 are expected to be the two best-selling foldables in 2020 on both a unit and revenue basis, DSCC said.
