COVID-19 Records Set As Virus Spreads In Oregon

Dec 10, 2020 The Oregon Health Authority’s COVID-19 weekly report shows weekly highs for COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations for the third consecutive week. OHA reported 10,355 new daily cases during the week of Monday, Nov. 30 through Sunday, Dec. 6, a 14% increase over the previous week and the seventh consecutive record high weekly case count. Hospitalizations associated with COVID-19 increased to 494, a 24% increase and an average of 70 per day. There were 133 reported COVID-19 reported deaths, up from 86 the previous week and an average of 19 per day – the highest since the pandemic began. People aged 20 to 49 have accounted for 55% of the cases, while people 70 and older have accounted for 76%of the deaths.

Hospitals closely watching increased COVID-19 activity

TRI-CITIES, WA- As COVID-19 cases continue to rise statewide, hospitals are also seeing an increase. In a press conference Tuesday, Washington Governor Jay Inslee said that 80% of ICU beds are occupied throughout the state. As ICU beds fill up, every person with a significant medical need is in trouble, not just those with COVID, but anyone that needs an ICU for any reason, Inslee said.Â Some worry about what would happen if hospitals become too full. As of Wednesday, the Benton-Franklin Health District (BFHD)Â reportedÂ 409 patients are currently hospitalized and 68 of them have COVID-19.Â Dr. Amy Person with the BFHD said that hospitals in Benton and Franklin counties are doing okay, but they are watching the situation around the state.Â
