Former Northeastern University track and field coach Steve Waithe is facing federal charges in connection with what prosecutors said was a scheme to trick female student-athletes into sending him nude or semi-nude photos.
Waithe, 28, of Chicago, Illinois, also allegedly cyberstalked at least one female student-athlete, according to prosecutors. He was arrested by the FBI at his home in Chicago and is expected to make a court appearance there later Wednesday. According to court documents, Waithe also previously worked as a track and field coach at Penn State University, Illinois Institute of Technology, the University of Tennessee and Concordia University Chicago.

Prosecutors say they discovered more than 300 nude and semi-nude images of victims in the email accounts of Steve Waithe, 28, and that victims received more than 100 Instagram messages amid one of his schemes. The allegations revolve around Waithe’s work as a track and field coach at Boston’s Northeastern University from October 2018 until February 2019.

Former Northeastern University track and field coach Steve Waithe, 28, faces one count of cyberstalking and one count of wire fraud over his alleged scheme to dupe the student-athletes using fake social media accounts.
Beginning in at least February 2020, “Waithe perpetrated a scheme to trick female then-current or former Northeastern University Track and Field athletes into sending him nude or semi-nude photos through the use of sham social media accounts and stolen or otherwise compromised photos of the victims, an affidavit from FBI special agent Mark Wilson said.

BOSTON (AP) A former track and field coach at Boston’s Northeastern University was arrested Wednesday and charged with using bogus social media accounts to try to trick female student-athletes into sending him nude photos of themselves, prosecutors said.
Steve Waithe, 28, of Chicago, is accused of creating fake social media accounts to contact track and field athletes and offering to help get rid of compromising photos of them he claimed to have found online.
He would send pictures he had obtained of the victims and try to persaude them to send more explicit photos to him so he could “reverse image search,” authorities said in court documents.
