Feb 23, 2021 AUSTINTOWN Richard J. Baldwin, 89, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, Feb. 19, 2021, at Burton Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Burton. Richard was born March 24, 1931, in Youngstown, a son of the late George and Teresa Cronin Baldwin. He attended The Rayen School, earned a GED while serving in the U.S. military, and lived most of his life in the Mahoning Valley. Richard proudly served in the Marine Corps for four years, enlisting March 31, 1948, and was a corporal in the Corps during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from military service March 30, 1952, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. Baldwin worked for U.S. Steel, Ohio Works, for 30 years as a conductor on its railroad, retiring in 1980.

Lyla Irene Newhouse Lyla Irene Newhouse, age 96, of Crookston, MN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN, with her loving family by her side. Lyla Irene Larson was born on June 16, 1924, in Bear River, St. Louis County, MN, the daughter of the late Martin and Rena (Johnsrud) Larson. She grew on a farm outside of Fertile until she started school and then they moved into town. She attended Sunday School and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church in Fertile. After graduating from Fertile High School in 1943, she went to Crookston, MN, and worked at Bethesda Hospital in the dietary department until she was married. She was united in marriage to Glenn Newhouse, son of Willie and Grace (Avery) Newhouse of rural Crookston, at Concordia Lutheran Church on May 24, 1947. Submitted photo RED WING “A Different Kind of Christmas Season” was the theme for the Red Wing Elks’ Christmas Basket Project this year. This essential civic charity was accomplished with the minimum of people and the maximum of safety compliance. Small, immediate family groups accomplished staging and packing that was spread out over several days. The same was true for delivery, where masking and social distancing were strictly observed, participants said Monday after delivering baskets to local families.
