The European Union (EU), through the French Development Agency- Agence Francaise Development (AFD) has approved a 9.
7 million Euros grant to Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to boost infrastructure works on its Kumasi-Bolgatanga Transmission Project.
The aim of the project is to enhance and upgrade electricity supply and access to the Northern Regions of Ghana. It will also boost export of power to the sub-region under the West African Power Pool (WAPP), commencing with Burkina Faso.
The grant was co-signed by both Ms Diana Acconcia, EU Ambassador to Ghana and Ms Anne-Sophie Ave, French Ambassador to Ghana and Mr Christophe Cottet, Country Director of AFD and Mr Jonathan Amoako-Baah, Chief Executive Officer of GRIDCo, both signing on behalf of their respective institutions.

Balloting held for participating schools for third edition of National Energy Quiz
Balloting has been done for the third edition of the national energy quiz which commences on the 11th of January, 2021 where 95 schools from three zones; northern, middle, and southern zones battle for ultimate glory.
Seasoned quizmaster, Dan Afari-Yeboah will be in the driving seat to pitch senior high schools from across the country against each other in a battle of ideas in areas such as energy, culture, petroleum, and power.
Northern Zone
The competition begins in the northern zone on the 11th and 12th of January, 2021 where Interesting contests await fans and lovers of the quiz as 26 schools engage in a battle of ideas in the specified fields.

The Institute for Energy Policies and Research (INSTEPR), an energy sector think tank, has called for the creation of two new ministries to handle power and oil and gas to ensure the effective management of the sectors.
“We strongly believe that the time has come for the creation of two new ministries, Ministry of Power and Ministry for Oil and Gas, to properly manage the sector,” the institute suggested.
In its 2021 outlook and expectations in the energy sector, the institute observed that the growth of the sector had made it impossible for a single ministry to properly manage the entire energy sector.
