Ofori-Atta releases GH¢1.2bn to pay for Covid-19 free water & power bills The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning-designate, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, has promptly released, at least, GH¢1.2 billion as part payment for COVID-19 relief, covering the free electricity and water to Ghanaians since the outbreak of the pandemic. To keep the lights on during the COVID-19 era till now, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has received over GH¢1billion as part payment for the free power it supplied to the good people of Ghana. Payment to Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) for providing free water to the general public since the outbreak of COVID-19 is in the region of GH¢180 million.

  The government has been urged to collaborate with Digital Service provider, KGL Technology Limited to enhance its digitalization Programme.    Effective collaboration between KGL Technology Limited and the government through the Economic Management Team, Ministries of Finance, Communications and Digitalization, and other allied organizations according to the founder of Concerned Voters Movement, Razak Kojo Opoku, would further strengthen the provision of digital services, e-commerce and the overall digitalization project.    We would like to recommend to Government and other relevant stakeholders that, one of the practical ways to further enhance the digitalization project of Government would be through the collaboration with KGL Technology Limited, a licensed online marketing company and digital service provider responsible for the operation of the digital short code 959#.

Government makes part payment to ECG, GWCL for free COVID electricity, water

The free electricity and water are part of the many social interventions rolled out by the government to cushion Ghanaians against the hardships imposed by COVID-19, such as the loss of income. To ensure that many Ghanaians do not suffer disconnection because of their inability to settle their electricity bills in the midst of the pandemic, ECG has received at least GH¢1 billion as part payment for the free power it supplied to the public. According to Daily Graphic, the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), on the other hand, has received about GH¢180 million for providing free water to the general public since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the region.
