Outdoor dining to continue

Outdoor dining to continue Diners are seen eating on the patio outside Fiesta Jalisco on White Mountain Highway in North Conway Monday afternoon. It is one of the restaurants offering outdoor dining in the coming season. Rachel Sharples / Conway Daily Sun Published: 6/15/2021 6:10:36 PM Selectmen voted last week to let outdoor dining continue through Dec. 1 even though the governor’s emergency order that originally enabled it has expired. Last May, in response to state pandemic guidelines that allowed restaurants to offer outdoor dining, a permitting process was instituted in the town, administered by John Eastman, Conway Parks and Recreation director. At a meeting in March, selectmen decided to give restaurants the option to continue outdoor dining if they refiled for another permit.

New Year s Eve fireworks tonight in North Conway

CONWAY — With the forecast calling for clear skies Thursday evening, the stage is set for saying goodbye (and good riddance!) to 2020 and hello to hopefully better times in 2021 as Community Celebrations presents its annual New Year’s Eve fireworks in North Conway’s Schouler Park at 9:30 p.m. “I received lots of calls from people yesterday and they’re all pretty excited about the fireworks,” said John Eastman, director of the town of Conway’s Parks and Recreation Department, who annually oversees the fireworks display which is presented by Atlas Fireworks. “We expect the fireworks to last about 15 minutes. We ask people to wear masks and maintain safe social distancing,” said Eastman.

Little flooding, but rain depletes snow for skiers

CONWAY — The Christmas Eve and Christmas Day storm brought heavy rain and some flooding of local streams and rivers and caused snowpack cover to melt prior to the start of vacation week, but the storm did not drop as much precipitation as forecasted. “We got 1.34 inches here at the station but they had predicted more than 2 inches. That combined with there being less snow on the ground made it less impactful than predicted,” said Conway Village Fire Chief Steve Solomon Monday, as a light snow fell. Local U.S. cooperative weather observer Ed Bergeron reported 1.69 inches on Christmas Eve and another .9 inches on Christmas Day for a total of 2.59 inches at his West Side Road North Conway weather station.
