Steiner: 100 GPs worth celebrating

With Haas set to compete in their 100th Grand Prix, team principal Guenther Steiner says that it’s a milestone worth celebrating. The American team joined the sport in 2016 and enjoyed a fair amount of success in the first three seasons, finishing as high as P5 in the Constructors’ Championship in 2018. Since then, however, there has been little to celebrate as they’ve struggled to score points in the past two years. Even so, Steiner believes that the fact that they’re still on the grid is an achievement in itself.

“The position we are still defining,” Steiner told reporters. “For sure, it will be a very senior position, obviously. Simone was at Ferrari for a long time in a very senior position now, so he wouldn’t come without having that one, it would be no point arriving there without a senior position. “The connection to Mick is not direct. Obviously we work very close together with Ferrari, so when it was discussed we needed to reinforce our technical team after we went a little bit backwards the last year with the pandemic. “So, he was a good choice – but it has nothing to do directly with Mick driving for us.”
