Drink driver caught outside Isle of Wight police station | Isle of Wight County Press

A SUPERMARKET assistant caught drink-driving within yards of Newport Police Station, told an officer he couldn t arrest her because he was not a real policeman, an Isle of Wight court was told. Stacey Burch, of Binstead Road, Ryde, was disqualified from driving for 21 months after she admitted drink driving on Pyle Street, Newport, at 11.50pm on May 1. Officers DS Wilkinson and PSI Taylor, out of uniform, were leaving Newport Police Station when they heard a loud crashing noise coming from Pyle Street, followed by what sounded like gears crunching and an engine revving.

Man arrested after Wednesday night crash in Newport

A man was arrested and released under investigation, after a crash between a Ford car and a Suzuki van, on St George s Way in Newport, last night (Wednesday). It happened near Coppins Bridge, at 7.15pm, on May 5, blocking the road and the junction with Furrlongs. Two vehicles collided and one overturned, but no-one was hurt in the incident. A 39-year-old man from Brading was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.
