Noted journalist Hasan Shahriar no more 225 File Photo DHAKA, April 10, 2021 (BSS) – Former president of Jatiya Press Club and executive editor of the daily Ittefaq Hasan Shahriar passed away at the age of 74 while undergoing treatment at a city hospital today. The veteran journalist breathed his last at Impulse Hospital at around 12 noon, immediate past president of JPC Saiful Alam told BSS. Shahriar, also a two-term president of Commonwealth Journalists’ Association (CJA), was admitted to the hospital at around 1:30 am on Friday with symptoms of coronavirus. Later, he tested positive for the virus. His namaj-e-janaza will be held on the premises of the Jatiya Press Club after Asr prayers today, he added.

Shahriar, who was the first journalist from Asia-Pacific to be elected as President of the Toronto-based Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA) in 2003, breathed his last at a hospital in Dhaka around 11:45am on Saturday. In a condolence message, DCAB President Pantho Rahaman and its General Secretary AKM Moinuddin conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members and sought eternal peace for the departed soul of the veteran journalist.

He breathed his last around 11.30am on Saturday (April 10) at Impulse Hospital in the capital. General Secretary of the Jatiya Press Club Ellias Khan confirmed the news to media. He was admitted to Impulse Hospital on Thursday after his health condition had deteriorated. Shahriar, a confirmed bachelor, retired from the Daily Ittefaq as its Executive Editor in 2008 after serving the newspaper for a long time. He was the first editor of the Daily Sun and Chief Editor of Chittagong-based Daily People’s View.
