Temporary road closure in Kagman on May 1

(Commonwealth Utilities Corp.) — There will be a temporary road closure on Saturday, May 1, 2021, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the eastbound lane across from the Kagman Mobil gas station. CUC’s operators will be replacing a rotted wooden primary pole to a concrete pole located across from the  gas station. The roadway will re-open for use soon after the installation.   For the safety of the men and women working at the site, motorists are advised to proceed with caution and/or take alternative routes when traveling through the area.    CUC continues to work diligently to minimize any inconvenience to its customers. Scheduled power service interruption on April 27

(Commonwealth   Utilities Corp.) —  There will be a scheduled power service  interruption on Tuesday, April  27,  from  9 a.m.  to 2  p.m.  in Koblerville.  The purpose of the scheduled power service  interruption  is to de-energize  utility lines to allow  CUC s  linemen  to safely  replace three rotted primary power poles. • Areas   Affected: Koblerville (Seniada  Ct.,  Asnentukon   St.,   and  partial   areas  along Alaguan  St.) • Distribution  Circuit: Kiya-2 • Wastewater Lift Station Affected: None Because of the scale of work that will be performed,  CUC asks travelers to take alternate  routes or to exercise  caution   when driving through the working area. A CASE study in 2004 recognized Saipan’s solid waste management system as a model for other South Pacific islands to follow. The same year, the island received the Silver Solid Waste Management System Award/Planning & Management Division from the Solid Waste Association of North America, a well-respected group that advocates for the practice of environmentally and economically sound management of municipal solid waste in the region. At one time, Saipan had a solid waste management plan. Nearly two decades later, here we are having critical concerns about the proliferation of litter in the Commonwealth and the alarmingly higher rate of waste disposal at the Marpi landfill. Both pose a big threat to our health and safety, our economy, and most especially our environment.

Official: NMI government earned $21,500 in cannabis fees in 2 months

Denita Yangetmai, that asked the cannabis commissioners to provide the 22nd House members and the public an update about the CNMI’s newest industry. Cannabis Commission Chairwoman Nadine Deleon Guerrero, in a slide presentation, informed lawmakers that last week, the commission collected a $750 fee for the first Marijuana Producer Class 2 application. For Class 3 application fee, which costs $1,000 apiece, the commission has already collected $6,000 from six different applicants, Deleon Guerrero said. In addition, the commission has collected $1,000 in marijuana processor fee; $250 wholesaler license fee; and a total of $6,000 in retailer fees from six different applicants.
