UN Calls For Direct Talks Between India And Pakistan Ban Ki Moon
NEW DELHI: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called for a “direct dialogue” between India and Pakistan, as the two sides continue to blame the other for cross border provocations.
“We’re always following the developments in that part of the world very closely, and the Secretary-General will continue to encourage direct dialogue between Pakistan and India as a way to de-escalate any tensions that may exist,” the UN Secretary General’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told reporters in response to a question on tensions between the two countries.
Speakers, parliamentarians, and clerks of parliaments from the Caribbean Legislative Assemblies were gathered in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago for the 44th Annual Conference of the Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic (CAA) Region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA). The conference, which lasted from July 12 to July 19, 2019, was held under the theme “Globalization and Nationalism: Quo Vadis – Impacts on Commonwealth Parliaments”.
Representing Belize were the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honorable Laura Tucker Longsworth; the Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, Clarita Pech; and CARICOM Youth Ambassador, Kris Miller.
During the 12th Regional Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP), held from July 12 to July 13, 2019, there were discussions on the issues of gender-based budgeting and gender-based harassment.
