Marfil SAIPAN, CNMI (Marianas Variety, June 10) – Lawmakers in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are pushing for legislation that would grant incentives to international airlines providing direct flight service between Japan and Saipan. House Minority Leader Arnold Palacios, R-Saipan, said senators have indicated strong support for House Bill 14-338 which proposes to provide the Commonwealth Ports Authority with $2.2 million so it can provide incentives to international airlines. Introduced by Rep. Heinz Hofschneider, R-Saipan, the bill was passed by the House on May 25.

Fajardo Staff Reporter SAIPAN, Northern Mariana Islands (Sept. 12, 2000 – Saipan Tribune/Abridged -The Federal Aviation Administration has allocated almost $2.4 million in grants to the Commonwealth Ports Authority for the rehabilitation of Saipan International Airport s runway. The total amount, $2.374 million, is being made available under the federal Airport Improvement Program. The issuance of the grant is subject to approval of the project as finally formulated; CPA meeting the requirements set forth under the [Airport and Airway Safety and Capacity Expansion] Act; and the limits of obligational authority for the current fiscal year.
