House panel to scrutinise CIC, state information commissions

Synopsis
This is the first such parliamentary scrutiny of the functioning of the transparency watchdogs. So far, CIC has submitted annual reports to ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions, the nodal ministry for RTI-related issues.

NEW DELHI: The Central Information Commission and state information commissions would come under parliamentary scrutiny, for the first time since enactment of Right to Information (RTI) Act. The parliamentary committee on personnel, public grievances, law and justice has decided to review working of CIC and state information commissions the final appellate authority for RTI Act.

The coronavirus pandemic has changed the dynamics of operations in a tremendous manner. Many people have adopted and grown oblivious to online video meetings, lectures and conference to maintain social distancing.
