Michael Pavitt: Seven areas of interest for 2021
It was pointed out by our editor Duncan Mackay that yesterday marked the anniversary that I joined
insidethegames back in 2015, alongside my colleague Liam Morgan.
Rather than dwelling on this milestone, I have opted to look forward to seven potential areas of interest in my seventh year of service. Understandably Tokyo 2020 and the ongoing impact of coronavirus will be the key priorities for the Olympic Movement in the year ahead, but I have tried to steer clear as far as possible from these two obvious areas.

We already know that Thomas Bach will secure a second term as International Olympic Committee President in March, having been confirmed as the sole candidate for the post last year. With his Agenda 2020 programme now out of date, it will be interesting to see what the German official produces when an updated roadmap for the Olympic Movement is produced this year. Robertson given Award of Merit by Commonwealth Sport Canada Saturday, 2 January 2021
Olympic medallist Bruce Robertson has received the Commonwealth Sport Canada (CSC) Award of Merit in recognition of his volunteer service with the organisation, it has been announced.
The Award recognises an individual who has made distinguished, lasting and valuable contributions to furthering the aims and objectives of Commonwealth Sport Canada and the Commonwealth Games Foundation of Canada (CGFC), both domestically and internationally .
Robertson won Olympic silver and bronze medals in the 100 metres butterfly and 4x100m medley at Munich 1972, as well as gold in the individual event at the 1973 World Championships in Belgrade.

It s a cool weekday afternoon at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre, with the usual assortment of runners ranging from schoolkids to professionals going through their paces.
But at one end of the track, there s a group of world-class sprinters who run with a deeper purpose than most.
It includes Ismail Dudu Kamara a Sierra Leonean refugee who s running from fear of political persecution.
There s Abdoulie Asim an easy-going refugee from Gambia who s been cast out by his family because of his religion.
CGF President Dame Louise Martin: We should be optimistic about our future 30th December 2020
Commonwealth Games Federation President Dame Louise Martin in her annual end of year statement called on its members to view the future with optimism to overcome the challenges they have faced throughout 2020.
In her end of year statement she said: “There is no doubt that 2020 has been a hugely challenging year.
I do not think any of us could quite have anticipated the scale and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which continues to influence every one of us.
Despite the ongoing turmoil, I have been proud of the way that the Commonwealth Sport Movement has adapted under these difficult circumstances.
