Speaker says photo of naked MP an affront to dignity of House of Commons Poll Yes Speaker of the House of Commons Anthony Rota rises at the start of a sitting of the House of Commons, Wednesday, April 29, 2020 in Ottawa. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Adrian Wyld OTTAWA – House of Commons Speaker Anthony Rota has delivered a stern reminder to MPs that taking photos during parliamentary proceedings is strictly prohibited. His reminder comes two weeks after Liberal MP William Amos inadvertently appeared naked on an internal parliamentary feed of Commons proceedings. Bloc Quebecois MP Sebastien Lemire has apologized for taking a screen shot of Amos, who said he was changing his clothes after a jog.

With that, the Speaker said he considers the procedural aspect of the incident to be closed. But Liberals are not letting the matter drop. They are taking it to the all-party board of internal economy, the governing body of the Commons. If the board does not agree to impose sanctions on the Bloc Québécois MP who has admitted taking the photo, the Liberals are threatening to take it to the police. Rota was responding to an incident on April 14 when Liberal MP William Amos inadvertently appeared naked on an internal parliamentary feed of that day s question period. His image was not seen on the public feed.

Leaked photo of naked MP an affront to the House, but Speaker won t investigate

OTTAWA The House of Commons Speaker says that the taking and leaking of a screenshot of Liberal MP Will Amos who accidentally appeared nude in a non-public view of the virtual House of Commons was an “affront to the authority and dignity” of members of Parliament, but he won’t be investigating it further. In a ruling delivered following question period on Monday, House of Commons Speaker Anthony Rota said that the “inappropriate sharing” of the screenshot put Amos in a “difficult situation.” On April 14, Amos returned to his office after a jog and began changing into work clothes, unaware his camera was on, revealing himself to his parliamentary colleagues who were using the Zoom-like House of Commons platform.
