Children in Portishead have been practising the art of giving as Christmas approaches.
While most youngsters eagerly open the windows of their advent calendar this month, children at The Nursery, in Combe Road, began their reverse advent calendar by giving to those in need.
Children at the nursery have been taking donations of non-perishable food and useful items like nappies to the nursery and each day they talk about giving and select their items to place in a gift box for those less fortunate.
Nursery owner, Jackie Hardie, said: The festive season presents a great opportunity to discuss the real meaning of Christmas and help children to think of others.

Making a toy with Santa’s elves who are working hard in the toy factory, baking gingerbread houses in Father Christmas’ kitchen and a visit to see the man himself as he prepares for the big night are just some of the activities in store for children at a Portishead holiday club.
In the run-up to Christmas, children are invited to join Holiday Club @ The Nursery as it heads for its magical journey to the North Pole, which will end in a Christmas party for everyone involved.
The holiday club, in Combe Road, was launched in the summer of this year after parents said they were struggling for childcare of the siblings of children attending The Nursery.
