Met probing claims that officer raped two female colleagues

Met Police The Metropolitan Police are investigating allegations that two female officers were raped by a male colleague. The male officer was not charged or suspended, but is to face a misconduct hearing, more than three years after the claims were made, a BBC investigation with the Bureau of Investigative Journalism found. Both women were reportedly involved in abusive relationships with the unnamed officer, before being introduced to each other by a mutual friend. The BBC said they made separate allegations of physical and sexual assault in 2017, which were denied by the male officer. An investigation by Essex Police and the Crown Prosecution Service was then reportedly dropped in 2019 because of a lack of evidence.

Watchmen: State violence has become something to be feared in the UK

THE role of the police in western society is beginning to be understood and challenged in ways that were inconceivable only a decade ago. The belief in “law and order” and the infallibility of the police – or at least their role as a force for moral good in a system designed to uphold basic rights was deeply held. But the deluge of state violence now routinely witnessed and shared has fatally undermined that belief system and exposed as being based on a set of myths. “Policing by consensus” – the idea that you can only police a society if a level of good relations is maintained is under threat and new radical notions of abolishing the police system as we understand it are emerging.
