Changes at the top for lobby group
A WOMAN with a “wealth of experience in trade, investment, tourism and systems of government, and an authentic passion for the Mornington Peninsula as a local resident” has replaced former federal Liberal cabinet minister Bruce Billson on the Committee for Mornington Peninsula.
Zoe McKenzie, who joins the management committee, is principal of Trade and Investment Advisory, a company which advises clients on market expansion into Australia or on current or future free trade agreements.
The Committee for Mornington Peninsula describes itself as an “independent, member-based organisation committed to leading and influencing long-term outcomes and contributing to our strategic objectives for the broader Mornington Peninsula”.

Local Australian resource firms say financial institutions driven by climate change are constricting the industry by withholding vital insurance and loan services crucial for new mining projects.
Leading some companies to warn that global mining conglomerates who can go offshore for financial support will become more entrenched as smaller businesses risk closing. This comes as a parliamentary inquiry examines the impact the financial sector is having on Australian exports.
Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Trade and Investment, George Christensen, said mineral exports generated billions in revenue for the country, and any impact on the industry needed to be scrutinised.

30% tax offset a game-changer for Australian industry: Ombudsman
The Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman Bruce Billson has welcomed the Australian Government’s $1.2 billion investment in the nation’s digital future, including the 30% tax offset for the video game industry.
Mr Billson says the investment will encourage greater digital adoption by small and family businesses, to ensure they are globally competitive.
“This significant investment will support small business growth and go some way to unlocking the commercial gains that can be made through digitisation,” Mr Billson says.
“Many small businesses have adopted better use of mobile and internet technologies as a result of the COVID crisis and these announced support measures will help that trend continue. Small Business Ombudsman Bruce Billson is backing the federal government’s new $10 billion reinsurance scheme, saying it will make insurance premiums more affordable for businesses in northern Australia.
The $10 billion reinsurance pool, announced on Tuesday, will cover cyclone and related flood damage in northern Australia from mid-2022.
The fund will act as a government guarantee to help reduce insurance premiums for small businesses, households and strata by over $1.5 billion over 10 years, and is expected to cover 500,000 eligible property insurance policies.

At least 13 former Liberal MPs and political staffers have been appointed to plum federal government jobs since the start of the year, including a former deputy mayor given a 26-year-long, $10 million post at the Fair Work Commission.
Alana Matheson, the former Liberal deputy mayor of Campbelltown who has worked for the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and for KPMG - and who is the daughter of two-term Liberal MP Russell Matheson - was appointed to the $387,960 per annum post as a Fair Work Commissioner on April 1.
