CHERRY HILL, New Jersey (WABC) The owner of a beauty salon in New Jersey jumped in to help people in need across Texas.
For Wanda Mora, the mission is very personal after her own family was greatly impacted by Hurricane Maria in 2017. I lost my father to the hurricane, and we did a lot of work over there. I know firsthand what it is to suffer, she said.
Her salon, Mora Salon, is holding a drive to collect warm items like hats, scarves and space heaters that will be shipped to two shelters in Texas.
The items will go to the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center and another shelter in Bach Springs.

Clay Jenkins: Mayor Johnson ‘Undermined’ the Vaccine Effort
Johnson claims Jenkins gave preferential treatment to walk-ups without communicating to the city. Jenkins says he was balancing inequity in who received the vaccine.

Mayor Eric Johnson is once again clashing with Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, this time over the communication surrounding the COVID-19 vaccination distribution at the Fair Park mega center. Johnson made his allegations in a letter he sent Wednesday night to Jenkins, the city manager, and members of the City Council. Media got ahold of it Thursday afternoon. The mayor said that Jenkins was allowing some individuals to get walk-up vaccinations without registering ahead of time, which disenfranchised others in South Dallas, all while not communicating the change to the city.

If you are included in the Phase 1B group, you can get the COVID-19 vaccine if your local provider has enough vaccine shots available.
On Jan. 10, Texas announced it was opening 28 large-scale hub locations. In addition, to reach smaller communities across the state, Abbott said vaccine doses would be delivered to 206 smaller locations.
Dallas County is working to help vaccinate about 2,000 people per day from the site that opened at Fair Park on Monday, Jan 11.

Over the past two weeks, the availability of intensive care unit beds in regional hospitals has hovered between 83 and 60, even though there were nearly 800 ICU beds available early in the pandemic.
According to state data, COVID-19 patients make up 21.1 percent of staffed beds in the area’s hospitals, the highest mark Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council CEO and President Steve Love has ever seen. The 83 beds available are spread thinly over a 19 county area in North Texas. In Dallas County, there were just 16 ICU beds available at one point last week, with only seven in Collin County and three in Denton County.
