A TEENAGE BOY who was driving a car at a minimum speed of 119km/h in a 50km/h zone when he crashed in Cork city, causing the death of a 16-year-old girl and permanent injury to a 17-year-old boy, has been detained for four years.

A 17-year-old boy who admitted dangerous driving causing the death of 16-year-old Kimberly O Connor in Co Cork last year has been sentenced to four years in detention.
Daniel Wyse, of Killiney Heights, Knocknaheeny, Cork, also pleaded guilty to seriously injuring a teenage boy who was also in the car when it crashed close to Kimberly s home on the northside of Cork City on 19 February 2020.
Kimberly was the front seat passenger in the car which hit a pillar on Harbour View Road in Knocknaheeny. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A HEARTBROKEN mother said she received justice for her beloved daughter after a teen who admitted dangerous driving causing death was given four years detention.
Daniel Wyse (17) of Killiney Heights, Knocknaheeny, Cork pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of Kimberly O Connor (16) and to causing serious injury to another teenager in the car.
Cork Circuit Criminal Court heard that the car being driven by the defendant on February 19 2020 reached speeds of 119kmh in a 50kmh zone of the residential Cork community that evening.
The defendant had no driving license, no motor insurance and had purchased the old Seat car involved via an Internet advertisement.
A North Cork plant-hire firm has been fined €80,000 and ordered to pay over €10,000 in costs after the company was convicted of failing to maintain proper safety standards when one of its employees was struck by an excavator and ended up losing his leg.
