Teenager jailed for stabbing another teen with bottle Updated / Monday, 21 Dec 2020 20:08 The defendant was before Cork Circuit Criminal Court A teenager who repeatedly stabbed another teenager with a broken glass vodka bottle, after he refused to give him €2 for a bus fare has been jailed for 18 months. The defendant turned 18 since the attack in the Waterpark area of Carrigaline in County Cork in June of this year. Cork Circuit Criminal Court was told that the youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, left the 17-year-old for dead . Detective Garda Declan Healy of Carrigaline Garda Station said the incident happened after 10pm on 6 June when the victim was approached by teenagers who told him to hand over €2 for a bus fare.

Burglars who targeted home of elderly couple while they were at Mass lose sentence appeal

Two burglars, whose crime was likened to coronavirus, have lost their appeals against sentence for targeting the home of a couple in their late 80s, while they were out attending Mass. Armed gardai had caught the Cork City criminals red-handed in the house after an intelligence-led investigation, which resulted in both receiving seven-year sentences. Niall Fitzpatrick (53) of Corrin Close, The Glen, Cork City and Jerry O’Leary (62) of Brandon Crescent, Dillons Cross, also in the city, had pleaded guilty at Cork Circuit Criminal Court to the burglary at Kilberehert, Freemount, Charleville on October 19 last year. The court heard that the two criminals and another man had hired cars, changed drivers, brought changes of clothes, hidden in woods and staked out their target over two days. It was described as a carefully planned and calculated crime.

Wed, 16 Dec, 2020 - 13:12 Liam Heylin A well-known retired Cork businessman and former scout leader has been arrested and charged with 26 historical counts of sexually assaulting boy scouts. David Barry of Firgrove Gardens, Bishopstown, Cork, was arrested by Detective Garda Gary Duggan and brought before Cork District Court in custody. “I am so sorry for anyone I hurt,” David Barry replied. Det. Garda Duggan testified that he arrested David Barry at 7.40am at his home and brought him to Togher garda station at 8.10am where he charged him with 27 separate counts in respect of nine different complainants – former boy scouts. 

Former scout leader charged with sexual assault counts

A PENSIONER has been charged with 27 counts of sexual assault and attempted indecent assault against nine young boys who were members of the Irish boy scouts. David Barry (72), a retired businessman and former scout leader, appeared before Judge Olann Kelleher at Cork District Court on charges which relate to a lengthy Garda investigation into abuse allegations dating back over 30 years. Mr Barry of Montrose, Firgrove Gardens, Bishopstown, Cork faces a total of 26 counts of sexual or indecent assault and one count of attempted indecent assault. A total of nine boys - all former members of the Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland (CBSI) - had levelled the allegations involved. The complainants are all now middle-aged.
