Man charged with murder of widow found in burning car

Michael Leonard (62) appeared before a special sitting of Fermoy District Court. He is charged with the murder of Mrs O Keeffe at Dromdeer East, Doneraile, Co Cork on Thursday, February 4 contrary to Common Law. Judge Marie Keane was told by Detective Sergeant James O Shea that when Leonard was arrested, cautioned and formally charged at Fermoy Garda Station, he made no reply. Leonard, who has an address at Hill Crest, Glenosheen, Kilmallock, Co Limerick, appeared in court wearing black trousers, black slip-on shoes and a wine coloured hoodie. He remained silent throughout the brief hearing. Two of his female relatives were in the public gallery of the court.

Detective Garda Neil Walsh arrested the man and brought him before Cork District Court. This followed an investigation that commenced in September 2019 into an alleged assault on a man while he was attending a soup kitchen in Cork city centre. Adrian Henry was charged with the manslaughter of James Duncan, 40, at St. Patrick’s Street in Cork on September 12, 2019.

UK national charged with manslaughter over alleged street assault in Cork

Adrian Henry (48) appeared before Cork District Court charged with the manslaughter of James Duncan (40). The alleged assault occurred just metres from a soup kitchen in Cork city centre. Henry is charged with the manslaughter of Mr Duncan at St Patrick Street in Cork city centre on September 12 2019. The deceased, who lived at Dunmore Gardens in Knocknaheeny in Cork, had moments earlier been attending the soup kitchen. After the alleged assault, Mr Duncan was rushed by paramedics to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment for head injuries. Later, doctors performed emergency surgery to treat a traumatic brain injury. Following the surgery, Mr Duncan was placed on a life support machine.

Former scout leader charged with sexual assault counts

A PENSIONER has been charged with 27 counts of sexual assault and attempted indecent assault against nine young boys who were members of the Irish boy scouts. David Barry (72), a retired businessman and former scout leader, appeared before Judge Olann Kelleher at Cork District Court on charges which relate to a lengthy Garda investigation into abuse allegations dating back over 30 years. Mr Barry of Montrose, Firgrove Gardens, Bishopstown, Cork faces a total of 26 counts of sexual or indecent assault and one count of attempted indecent assault. A total of nine boys - all former members of the Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland (CBSI) - had levelled the allegations involved. The complainants are all now middle-aged.
