He named bishops and cardinals up to the very highest level of the church. He cited those who tried to cover up for former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick’s evil deeds, including Cardinal Donald Wuerl, McCarrick’s successor as Cardinal Archbishop of Washington, D.C. Wuerl was forced to step down because of these revelations.
Archbishop Vigano is no crank. He has always been highly respected with a spotless reputation. For his trouble he has had to go into hiding for his life. He is clearly no coward when it comes to speaking the truth. Why did he do it? He says, “To discharge my conscience before God of my responsibilities as bishop of the universal Church. I am an old man and I want to present myself to God with clean conscience.”

Catholics in the Greensburg Diocese are celebrating an early Christmas gift from Rome: the appointment of one of their own, Msgr. Larry J. Kulick, as bishop-elect.
Pope Francis announced the appointment of Kulick, a Leechburg native, as the sixth bishop of the diocese early Friday.
The appointment of the 54-year-old priest, who has spent his entire career in the diocese, marks the first time parishioners in the Greensburg Diocese have had cause to celebrate the elevation of a local priest to the bishop’s office.

SPRINGFIELD The Most Rev. William D. Byrne, a parish priest from the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., was installed Monday afternoon as the 10th bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield.
During the afternoon liturgy at the Cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel, Cardinal Sean O’Malley of the Archdiocese of Boston consecrated the 56-year-old Byrne as bishop in an ancient ritual that included the consent of attendees to his installation, questioned the bishop-elect about his commitment to what is considered the Church’s senior leadership, and called upon the Holy Spirit to guide him in his ministry.

Last month the Vatican released the long-awaited McCarrick Report, providing some (but not all) details about the clerical culture that protected the former cardinal, and serial abuser, Theodore McCarrick.
Last week Pope Francis named Bishop Michael Fisher, an auxiliary of the Washington, DC archdiocese, to head the Diocese of Buffalo.
The Buffalo diocese has been battered for months by legal charges involving cover-ups of sexual abuse.
Bishop Fisher comes from the archdiocese that McCarrick once headed, and served on the chancery staff under the disgraced former cardinal. He was ordained as a bishop by Cardinal Donald Wuerl, who resigned after accusations that he had covered up for McCarrick and covered up for other clerics during a previous assignment as Bishop of Pittsburgh.
