Washington Post editor Marty Baron announced to staffers on Tuesday that he would retire after eight years at the helm of the storied national newspaper.
Baron, a former editor of The Boston Globe whose tenure was depicted in the movie âSpotlight,â had hinted in previous years that he would depart after the 2020 presidential election. Heâll stay on at the Post through the end of February.

Not unexpected, but stunning nevertheless: Washington Post executive editor Marty Baron is retiring after eight years at the helm, according to Brian Stelter of CNN. Baron was widely regarded as the best newspaper editor of his generation, and his leadership not just at the Post but as a voice for journalism and the First Amendment will be hugely missed.
