Carteret County adds 45 COVID-19 cases Friday

CARTERET COUNTY — Health officials reported 45 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Carteret County Friday, though the number of active cases dropped slightly from Thursday down to 390. The new cases bring Carteret County’s overall total to 2,569 documented cases since March. Of those, the county reports 2,154 people have recovered and 24 have died. The number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City remained at 15 for the second day after hitting a record high of 16 earlier in the week. Meanwhile, the Carteret County public school system has reported eight additional COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases connected to schools to 125 as of Friday afternoon. The newest cases were reported Wednesday and Thursday at White Oak Elementary School, three cases; West Carteret High School, two; Croatan High School, one; Newport Elementary School, one; and Morehead City Middle School, one.

Carteret Health Care begins administering COVID-19 vaccines to staff

MOREHEAD CITY — On Thursday afternoon, inside an unassuming auxiliary building off of Bridges Street, the first doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine were administered to frontline workers at Carteret Health Care. “I feel great, fantastic, I’m very excited,” Dr. Nicole D’Andrea, an OBGYN physician at CHC, said after she became the first person in Carteret County to officially receive the vaccine. County reports 400 active cases Wednesday, hospitalizations set another record

CARTERET COUNTY — County health officials reported a jump in active COVID-19 cases Wednesday, hitting 400 for the first time during the pandemic, as hospitalizations also reached a new record. Carteret County reported 2,457 total COVID-19 cases Wednesday, an increase of 76 cases over Tuesday. Four hundred of those cases are considered active, up from 333 active cases Tuesday, while 2,033 people have recovered and 24 have died. Carteret Health Care in Morehead City reported a record 16 COVID-19 hospitalizations Wednesday, the day before officials anticipate the hospital will receive its first round of the Pfizer vaccine. The previous single-day  high of 14 hospitalizations was first reached last week and again Tuesday.

Carteret County announces 23rd COVID-19 death Monday

CARTERET COUNTY — The Carteret County Health Department announced Monday another person has died from complications related to COVID-19, bringing the county’s death toll to 23 since the start of the pandemic. According to county health officials, the latest COVID-19 death occurred Saturday. The individual who died was in their 80s and had preexisting health conditions. “The Health Department sends our condolences to the family and loved ones of this residents,” Health Director Stephanie Cannon said. Meanwhile, the county reported 43 additional confirmed COVID-19 cases Monday for 2,330 total documented cases. Of those cases, 333 are considered active and 1,974 have recovered. Carteret Health Care in Morehead City reported nine COVID-19 hospitalizations Monday, down slightly from 10 hospitalizations reported Friday.
