Carteret Health Care receives first shipment of COVID-19 vaccine

MOREHEAD CITY – Carteret Health Care is among the Eastern North Carolina hospitals to receive a first wave of COVID-19 vaccine shipments. The hospital received its shipment Thursday and began vaccination of front-line hospital staff and providers in the afternoon, according to hospital spokeswoman Michelle Lee. Lee said they planned to continue to administer the vaccine during a vaccination clinic on Friday. The hospital received 975 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Ultra-cold freezers are in place to store the vaccine at the required temperature range of -80 Celsius to -60 Celsius. In a news release issued about the shipment, Carteret Health Care CEO said the start of vaccinations “gives us great hope in this battle against the pandemic.”

Carteret Health Care begins administering COVID-19 vaccines to staff

MOREHEAD CITY — On Thursday afternoon, inside an unassuming auxiliary building off of Bridges Street, the first doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine were administered to frontline workers at Carteret Health Care. “I feel great, fantastic, I’m very excited,” Dr. Nicole D’Andrea, an OBGYN physician at CHC, said after she became the first person in Carteret County to officially receive the vaccine. The room erupted into cheers as the first shots were administered, and some people became overwhelmed with emotion as they sat down to receive theirs.     Employees at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City administer the first doses of the Pfizer vaccine to frontline staff Thursday.
